ORTHOTICS Orthotics are devices that may be applied to any part of the body to prevent or correct deformity, protect and immobilize structures, facilitate healing, and increase function. Foot orthotics are the most commonly prescribed type of orthotic. Assessment and prescription is completed by a Canadian Certified Pedorthist. The primary functions of our hardworking feet are to provide support and locomotion. Our feet support our body's weight in an upright position. People often experience foot pain and discomfort, as well as decreased function for a number of reasons, including injuries, posture, anatomical structure and health conditions. Foot dysfunction can impact on daily living, including work activities, personal care, leisure activities, and home management tasks. Custom-fabricated orthotics are devices worn within supportive footwear to treat and manage foot dysfunction and discomfort. Foot orthotics are provided to manage pain, prevent deformity, decrease compensation, and promote normal biomechanical function and movement of the foot.
